The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) has published the preliminary allocation of 297.3 million euros in aid to 34 projects for the manufacture of equipment and components essential for the technological and industrial development of renewable energies in Spain. The proposal for a provisional resolution of the RENOVAL program of the Institute for Diversification and Energy Saving (IDAE) –available here– It includes, for the most part, development of electrolysers for renewable hydrogen and components for wind, as well as initiatives in photovoltaic technology, batteries and heat pump.
In the case of Navarre, two projects are selected, for a total amount of 11,134,291 euros. Of these, EUR 1,138,215 relates to NORDEX ELECTROLYZERS for a project linked to the production of main equipment for renewable hydrogen in Barasoain. And 9,996,076 euros have been allocated to MCPV MANUFACTURING SPAIN, for a project of production of main equipment in the field of solar photovoltaic systems in Tudela.
With NextGenEU funds from the Recovery Plan (PRTR), this line of incentives from the IDAE will help strengthen the entire chain of innovative value and knowledge around renewable energies in Spain; both in mature technologies, in the case of solar photovoltaic and wind, and in other emerging technologies, with renewable hydrogen in the foreground. Likewise, it will allow the development of new technological and industrial capacities in order to guarantee energy security, increase our competitiveness and decarbonize the industry.
Technological career
Europe is currently a net importer of zero net emission energy technologies. These technologies are at the heart of important geostrategic interests and the global technological career. In this context, countries want to ensure that their supply comes from the most advanced energy production technologies and drive the clean transition. Other regions of the world are making large investments and deploying support measures to renew and strengthen their production capacities.
Spain not only has a renewable resource but also has an industrial ecosystem around the value chain of renewables that is leading at a European and global level. We can already manufacture in our country 60% of the solar value chain and almost 100% of the wind, and we are exporters in these technologies. However, there are certain components or elements of that value chain where both Spain and Europe have a high dependence on third markets. Hence the importance of supporting not only the deployment of the energy transition, but also of new industrial capacities, the objective of this aid programme.
Spain must seize this opportunity and strengthen the value chain of the components of renewable technologies, in order to guarantee energy security, increase our competitiveness and decarbonize the industry. This is in line with the European Union’s basic principles of digital and environmental transformation, the RepowerEU Plan and the Net-Zero Industrial Act.
This aid programme has benefited from a simplified reporting process to the European Commission as part of the temporary crisis and transition framework for state aid, as part of the Community response to Russia's aggression against Ukraine and the new geopolitical context surrounding the energy transition.
ERHA PERTE reinforcement
This program is funded by the PRTR, within the REPowerEU component, included in October 2023. This additional disbursement has made it possible to strengthen the PERTE ERHA (Renewable Energy, Renewable Hydrogen and Storage), where this line of aid is framed. These reinforcement actions will allow not only the deployment of the energy transition, but also the technologies and/or solutions to be designed and manufactured in Spain.
