The delegate of the Government in Navarre, Alicia Echeverría, recalled today, in statements to a media outlet, that the City of Tudela has to have a digitalized classroom for the realization of the theoretical driving exams if it wants to remain as a displaced center of the DGT. He has indicated that, soon, videos will be introduced in these exams that will make it necessary to have computer equipment in the classrooms.
For this reason, the General Directorate of Traffic has drawn up a standard agreement that is already being signed by other localities in the country that, like Tudela, have displaced centres for carrying out examinations. Under this agreement, each city council acquires a series of commitments, among them, to condition the classroom within a maximum period of 12 months from the signing, assuming the expenses that this will cause.
For its part, the General Directorate of Traffic undertakes to carry out, as hitherto, the theoretical tests for obtaining a driving licence or license in the examination center authorized by the city council. It also undertakes to provide the necessary technical and computer advice, to make proper use of computer facilities and equipment, or to collaborate with municipal and security employees.
“It is an agreement in which both parties assume their responsibilities,” explained Echeverría, who pointed out that the DGT allocates around 50,000 euros each year for the movement of examiners to Tudela and the carrying out of the tests.
The delegate of the Government recalled, in turn, that the DGT does not finance or have financed the digitalization of any of the displaced centers that have already signed the agreement. Nor does it value the sources of funding that each city council can use to pay for the works.
On the other hand, Echeverría has sent a message of tranquility to the motorschools. “The DGT is committed to keeping the center displaced and there is room for agreement, but there has to be will on the part of the City of Tudela,” he said. He has also clarified that the number of exams is not at risk, since the commitment is to attend all requests for theoretical tests of the driving schools, as has been done so far.
“It is a matter of the city council assuming its responsibility as a displaced center that is instead of seeking confrontation,” said Alicia Echeverría, who understands that the council is making a “abandonment of functions” in this issue.
