Navarre has received 177,142.56 kilos of food from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food within the framework of the first phase of the “2023 Program of food aid to the most disadvantaged people”. The value of these foods amounts to 292,937.62 euros. Throughout Spain, 15 million kilos have been distributed through the Spanish Agricultural Guarantee Fund (FEGA). This amount represents approximately 30% of the total to be distributed this year and the second phase will begin next September.
The food purchased is basic, varied, nutritious, unperishable, easy to transport and storage. In this way, the basket includes foods such as rice, cooked chickpeas, canned tuna, alimentary paste (spaghetti and noodles), fried tomato, biscuits, vegetable sour, soluble cocoa or childish fruit and chicken tarrites.
These products will be distributed through the Food Bank of Navarre and the Red Cross. These entities will distribute food to 86 partner delivery organizations, so that the 22,005 beneficiaries in the Foral Community can easily prepare a full meal for a person or family, including babies.
The purchase of food for this program has been carried out through two public tender processes worth 88,571,420 million euros (VAT not included), funded in full by the Resilience and Recovery Fund ACT-EU, which has been used to increase support to the Fund for European Aid for the Most Disadvantaged People (FEAD), in order to help those who have been most affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
