- The government delegate hopes that the work will be completed in the last quarter of the year
- During an institutional visit, he met with the mayor and became interested in the damage to the dome of the Basilica.
- “We have allocated 26 million euros in works to recover the urban, historical and cultural heritage of the city,” he said.
- “We are willing to collaborate if necessary, but it is already good to always demand the Government of Spain and not assume your own competences in the conservation and recovery of the heritage”, Lucas has censored the Autonomous Community and the city council itself
February 10, 2026. The government delegate visited this morning the works of the new National Police Station of Yecla, in which the Government of Spain has invested 4.7 million euros.
“The works began last October and have an execution period of 12 months, so we hope that this station will be a reality at the end of this year. This is great news for Yecla, for all the Yeclanos and Yeclanas, as it responds to one of their great concerns and demands,” he said during his tour of the facilities.
Francisco Lucas, who previously met with the mayor, Remedios Lajara, highlighted the unquestionable commitment of the Government of Spain to Yecla, and claimed the more than 26 million euros invested in projects of vital importance for the municipality, such as the rehabilitation of the Hunter Building, the Central Market or the Chapel of the Virgin of the Anguish.
In this sense, he has traveled to the Basilica to check the damage that the storm caused to the dome, and has called on the city council itself and the regional government to assume their powers to urgently restore the dome.
“The images of the damage caused by the last storm shocked all of us from Murcia. The dome of the Basilica of the Purisima is an emblem of Yecla and a symbol for the entire Region of Murcia,” he said.
To conclude, the government delegate recalled the importance of investing in the maintenance of heritage and regretted that the regional government only remembers our monuments when there is damage.
“I wonder what the Regional Government is for. What is the point of a regional president who neither manages nor assumes his competences? As always, the Government of Spain is ready to collaborate if necessary, but it is good to always demand of others and not assume your own competences in the conservation and recovery of the heritage. Because in this case, the competences and therefore the responsibility are of the regional government and the city council,” he concluded.
