The auditorium of the Associated Center of the UNED hosted this noon the act of taking possession of the new Superior Chief of Police of Melilla, the main commissioner Juan de Dios Piedra Martínez, in an act presided over by the Director General of the Police, Francisco Pardo Piqueras, and which was attended by the president of the Autonomous City, Juan José Imbroda, and the Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, among other civil and police authorities.
During her speech, the Government Delegate conveyed her congratulations and best wishes to the new head of the Superior Police Headquarters, stating that “the trajectory of Juan de Dios Piedra, at the head of different responsibilities within the National Police Force, is an example of commitment, vocation and dedication to public service.”
Therefore, she has assured that she is convinced “that her leadership and experience will be a guarantee to continue strengthening security, coexistence and citizen confidence in Melilla”.
The head of the Government Delegation stressed that “the figure of the Superior Chief of the National Police in Melilla is key in the defense of the rights and freedoms of citizens, in the protection of security and in the preservation of coexistence”.
National Police, an essential institution
In this regard, he stressed that “the National Police, as an essential institution of our democratic rule of law, represents one of the most solid pillars on which the trust of society is based”. In the words of the Delegate, the work of the Corps, “often discreet, but always effective, guarantees our freedoms and the daily peace that makes coexistence possible in our day to day”.
In her speech, the highest representative of the Government of Spain in our city has highlighted the role of the National Police in a city “unique in the world, an example of interculturality, understanding and respect, with a unique geographical and social reality”.
“Precisely for this reason, your work, dedication and presence are fundamental to maintain the cohesion and social peace that define us as an open, diverse and supportive city,” he stressed.
The Delegate stressed that “Spain is today one of the safest countries in the world, and in Melilla we have made significant progress in terms of security levels in recent years”. “This achievement is the result of a daily and shared effort based, among other things, on your good work and the close collaboration between institutions,” he said.
In the final part of her speech, the head of the delegation addressed directly to the new Superior Chief, “I know that your experience, serenity and listening skills will further strengthen the trust between the National Police and the society of Melilla. Because true leadership is measured not only in the decisions that are made, but in the trust that is inspired and in the example that is transmitted.”
“Dear Superior Chief of the National Police in Melilla, today you not only take office, but you also make a commitment to Melilla and to all of us who believe that security is the basis of freedom. We wish you many successes at this stage, where you will continue to serve Spain from our city, which for a few days has received you with all its affection”, he concluded.
