The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, has valued the implementation of new school canteens in the city for the next year, in a determined commitment of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (MEFPyD) to favor family conciliation and guarantee equal opportunities.
In this regard, Moh recalled that the CEIP Encarna León will have for the first time a school canteen, with capacity for 300 boys and girls, which adds to the services already existing in the CEIP León Solá and the CEE Reina Sofía.
In addition, he has highlighted an important novelty: all students with special educational needs of the Reina Sofía School who apply for the dining scholarship will be awarded automatically.
The Delegate stressed that the progressive establishment of school canteens responds to a double objective, “on the one hand, to support families in their daily lives, facilitating conciliation; and, on the other, to strengthen the educational work of the centers, complementing it with extracurricular activities and quality services that respond to the needs of the educational community.”
Dining service in all centers
The highest representative of the Government of Spain in the city has pointed out that Melilla has several schools that already offer this service through different formulas, such as agreements with day centers or catering services.
As he announced, “the Ministry is now working on a study so that the other interested schools can join the network of school canteens, taking advantage of infrastructures such as that of the CEIP Encarna León, which could function as a master dining room for other centers.”
Sabrina Moh insisted that “the will of the Government is clear: to move forward until all schools in Melilla can have a school canteen”. “We know that it is a fundamental resource for families and to guarantee equal opportunities for all students,” he said.
Finally, the Delegate stressed the firm commitment of the Government of Spain to our city. “We are making an unprecedented bet in Melilla. Each dining room we open is one more step towards a more inclusive, fairer and more guaranteed educational model in terms of opportunity”, he concluded.
