The University Entrance Test (PAU) began today in Melilla with the participation of 370 students, distributed between the Leopoldo Queipo Institute - with 145 students - and the Melillense Campus of the University of Granada (UGR) - with 225 students. The Provincial Director of Education, Elena Fernández Treviño, wanted to be present to show her support to the students in a day marked by nerves and expectation.
“We are here to accompany all the students who are examined today of the PAU, which this year presents important changes in their tests,” explained Fernández Treviño. The Provincial Director wished all the students luck and highlighted the personal challenge of this evaluation: “We know it’s a test that is a challenge and a nervous phase for them, so I wanted to give them all my encouragement and confidence.”
“I wish all the students who are examined today a lot of luck and inspiration to accompany them on this important day for their academic future,” said Fernández Treviño, who explained that the test will take place over the next three days.
Thus, today the general phase is celebrated with examinations of Language and Literature, English and, at choice, History of Philosophy or History. Tomorrow and the day after will continue the specific phase with the subjects of modality and, in terms of the notes, it has advanced that they will be released in an approximate period of two to three weeks.
After two years in which the number of students who have applied for this pass has been increasing, in this call 90 students are less than in the year 2024.
A circumstance that, in the opinion of Elena Fernández Treviño may be due to the fact that students have more options “and not everyone chooses this way of access to the university”, in reference to Professional Training, although she has also referred to the change of format in some of the tests that involves “the complexity that critical thinking, dissertation, writing, that is, leave more room for students to show their skills and abilities today”.
As an example, he has pointed to the History of Philosophy test, where for the first time it will be evaluated through a dissertation on current issues. “That is a challenge for the students, since they did not have a closed agenda, but I am sure they are perfectly prepared to face it,” said Fernández Treviño.
