The Provincial Director of Education, Elena Fernández Treviño, has announced the imminent inauguration of the ‘Aula del Futuro’ of Melilla, an innovative educational space that will open its doors on May 20 at the former Pablo Montesinos School, in front of the Miguel Marmolejo Art School. The event will be attended by the Secretary of State for Education, Abelardo de la Rosa Díaz, and representatives of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (MEFPyD).
Melilla thus becomes the fifteenth city in Spain to join the national network of the National Institute of Educational Technologies and Teacher Training (INTEF), joining this reference model for the development of digital teaching competence. The Classroom of the Future is committed to active methodologies, flexible spaces and the integrated use of digital technologies, aimed at transforming teaching and enhancing the competency learning of students.
As the Provincial Director explained, “this investment of the Ministry is going to be translated into a multidimensional, multidisciplinary space, which can also be used for training programs or for mixed, face-to-face and online programs.” El aula estará disponible tanto para el profesorado como para entidades interesadas en utilizarla como recurso formativo o de innovación educativa.
The new space is structured in several learning zones: CREATE (3D, with iT3D), DEVELOP (with Tibot), INTERACT (with Smart Technologies and Crambo), EXPLORE (with Vodafone Foundation), INVESTIGATE (with Robotix) and PRESENT (with Samsung). In addition, modular furniture has been supplied by the company Federico Giner, with a versatile and removable design that allows the classroom to be adapted to multiple uses.
Future Classroom Network
The objective of the Future Classroom is that teachers see in this proposal a reference model to promote methodological changes in their daily practice through active methodologies, the potential of technologies and, where possible, the creation and organization of flexible spaces in their educational centers. To this end, they offer training opportunities to teachers in their environment and help them in the process of improving their professional skills.
The methodological proposal Aula del Futuro focuses on the competence development of students, beyond the acquisition of content, and develops the concept of organization of space and the use of digital technologies. For this, a flexible and reconfigurable learning space is presented, enhancing the active methodologies in which the student Investigates, Explores, Interacts, Develops, Creates and Presents.
Far from wanting to limit learning in physical spaces, this bet favors and stimulates the teaching and learning processes, making the student the protagonist of the whole process and turning the teacher into mentor, guide and guide of the student’s learning.
