The Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (MEFPyD) has signed a collaboration agreement with the Autism Melilla Association to promote educational care for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in centers with open classrooms supported with public funds, in accordance with the principles of inclusion and educational normalization.
Recently, the CEIP ‘Pedro de Estopiñán’ has joined this agreement, which has already been joined by the ‘Catholic Monarchs’ and the ‘Enrique Soler’, although the objective of the Provincial Directorate of the MEFPyD is that it be expanded to other educational centers in the city.
The purpose of the Melilla Autism Association, as a non-profit entity, is to improve the quality of life of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder, promoting the full development of their individual capacities through individualized interventions and specific quality services.
This agreement will not entail any financial obligation on the part of the MEFPyD, since all the expenses of the workforce involved in the activities are assumed by the Autism Melilla Association. The educational centers will only have to “facilitate the development of the work assigned to the worker, while providing, where appropriate, the advice and information necessary for their performance.”
This agreement is established within the framework of an inclusive school model, in which efforts are combined in the care of students with special educational needs associated with Autism Spectrum Disorders to “advance in the consolidation of the principles of integration, normalization and personalization of the educational response”.
