The CEIP León Solá will have an Open Specialized Classroom for students with special educational needs, as announced by the Provincial Director of Education, Juan Ángel Berbel.
With this measure, the Ministry of Education and Professional Training (MEyFP) has expanded to 10 the number of ordinary educational centers that have classrooms for attention to diversity
As explained by the Provincial Director of Education, Juan Ángel Berbel, teaching aimed at students with special educational needs requires very specialized resources and support, being necessary the work of professionals from different fields and the use of very specific methodological and didactic elements.
“The unique difficulties that these students have with regard to learning, combined on many occasions, with the lack of autonomy and difficulties of communication and interaction in their social relations, make it necessary to create work spaces and use specific resources for these students,” he said.
In this sense, he has assured that the curricular proposal “will promote the maximum development and preparation of all students to favor their quality of life and access and participate in the greatest number of social situations and activities or, where appropriate, work, guaranteeing transitions to other contexts of development and socialization in the most adjusted and effective way possible.”
To respond to these needs, he said, specialized open classrooms are created for students with special educational needs. Through the Resolution, of July 28, 2021, of the Secretary of State for Education, on the operation of specialized open classrooms for students with special educational needs in primary and secondary education centers supported with public funds in the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, with which the operation of these classrooms in the two cities was authorized and concretized for the first time. “To this end, the creation of an open classroom specialized in the CEIP Anselmo Pardo Alcaide and in the IES Virgen de la Victoria was authorized,” he recalled.
Subsequently, it added, by Resolution, of August 20, 2022, of the Secretary of State for Education, the number of specialized open classrooms for students with special educational needs in Primary and Secondary education centers supported with public funds in the cities of Ceuta and Melilla was expanded and the number of open classrooms in the CEIP Real, IES Juan Antonio Fernández Pérez and CC La Salle-El Carmen was increased.
“The purpose of these specialized open classrooms has been to provide an extraordinary measure of attention to diversity to cater for students with special educational needs by incorporating them in regular centers, either temporarily or for a long time, requiring a specific and different socio-educational intervention, favoring their social integration with the rest of the students,” he said.
The MEyFP is responsible for providing the necessary equipment and additional resources for educational centers with specialized open classrooms for students with special educational needs, from the budget available for that purpose, he recalled
Next to the six classrooms described, Melilla also has four classrooms for students with autism spectrum disorder, located in the CEIPS Pedro de Estopiñán, Reyes Católica, Juan Caro and CC Enrique Soler.
“The LOMLOE is an educational standard that is committed to inclusiveness in ordinary educational centers and this accredits it through the progressive expansion of classrooms for attention to diversity, providing the human and technical resources associated with its implementation in the City of Melilla,” he said.
