The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, attended today the act of appointment of Francisco Caamaño Domínguez as Favorite Son of Cee, a recognition that, in her opinion, “values an exemplary political and institutional trajectory, deeply linked to the defense of the rule of law, freedoms and social justice.”
During the event, chaired by the mayor, Margarita Lamela, and which counted on the intervention of the rector of the University of Santiago de Compostela, Antonio López, a review was made of the extensive trajectory of Caamaño, highlighting his passage through the Government of Spain as Minister of Justice between 2009 and 2011, stage in which he promoted more than twenty regulatory reforms. Among them, the modernization of the Civil Registry, the introduction of the penitentiary responsibility of legal persons and the promotion of the electronic Administration of Justice were highlighted.
His time as chairman of the Committee on Justice and Home Affairs was also valued on the occasion of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union, in which he promoted, among other measures, the European order of protection for victims of gender violence.
“We are talking about a man with a vision of a country and of Europe, with deep roots in his land and with a capacity for dialogue that marked an era in Parliament and in the Council of Ministers,” said Rivas.
The deputy delegate thanked the City of Cee for granting this distinction, noting that “it is an appointment more than deserved, that honors Francisco Caamaño and that also honors this municipality, which knows how to recognize the talent and commitment of its neighbors. It is a pride for his native village and for all of Galicia”.
