A Coruña, May 30, 2025.- The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, celebrated today the results of the Minimum Vital Income (IMV), a pioneering social initiative of the Government of Spain that, since its approval five years ago, reached 46,904 Galician homes, directly benefiting 125,033 people. The delegate also stressed that in more than 34,800 of the households receiving this benefit live minors and that more than 55% of the protected persons are women.
Pedro Blanco reported that since its launch in June 2020, the IMV mobilized in Galicia a cumulative gross amount of more than 676 million euros, with an average monthly amount per household of 500.99 euros, which helped preserve the purchasing power of the most vulnerable households and reduce poverty and inequality rates in Galicia to historical lows.
In the words of the government delegate, “this benefit, promoted by the Government of Pedro Sánchez as a fundamental part of the social shield is allowing progress towards a more just and egalitarian society, combating structural poverty and especially protecting families with minors.”
“People are and will continue to be the priority of the Government of Spain and the Minimum Vital Income was a social conquest of enormous importance that in these five years proved to be one of the most effective tools to combat poverty and move decisively on the path of social justice,” he said.
