The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, today described as revolutionary the entry into force of the digital version of the National Identity Document, which allows the secure identification of citizens through their mobile devices.
Pedro Blanco made this assessment during the opening of the presentation day of the MiDNI application, which took place this morning in the Police Complex of Lonzas. An event that was attended by the Superior Chief of Police of Galicia, Pedro Pacheco; and the provincial commissioner of National Police in A Coruña, Carlos Gómez.
The delegate pointed out the importance of transferring to civil society the progress made by the digital version of the ID, which has the same validity as the physical version, with which it will continue to coexist. In his speech, he congratulated and valued the work carried out in recent years by the National Police and the Ministry of the Interior to design an application that meets the highest security standards and that, since April 2, there is the disposition of the entire citizenry.
Pedro Blanco put this project as an example of the process of modernization of the National Police and the Security Corps and Forces as well as the effort of the Government to facilitate communication with the public administrations in an increasingly digital environment.
The delegate anticipated that, in a short time, “this identification system will become the priority in our society”, especially when it is possible to use the digital version for online identification, which will occur in a second phase of implementation. He also warned the other administrations and public and private bodies that before a year they must have their identification systems adapted to read and accept the digital version of the ID card.
