The subdelegate of the Government in Ourense, Eladio Santos, on Thursday called on the Civil Guard to reinforce "the tireless fight against male violence, of which Ourense is no stranger". "The latest events in the province indicate that we must be vigilant and continue to provide tools to the victims, because it is an unstoppable scourge," he said during the commemoration of the 181st anniversary of the foundation of the institution, held in Plaza Carlos Casares de Xinzo de Limia.
During his speech, the deputy thanked "the sacrifice, dedication and professionalism" of the men and women who are part of the Civil Guard and who make the province of Ourense one of the safest in Spain. In addition, he indicated that more than 350 women are currently being protected by the Civil Guard in Ourense.
Eladio Santos celebrated that it is a holiday for an institution "that protects and cares for citizens" and that is "very dear, valued and respected". "Especially here, in the province of Ourense, where the majority of the territory is rural and 91 of 92 municipalities are under the jurisdiction of the Civil Guard," he added.
The Government of Spain, said the deputy delegate, "is aware of the challenges facing the Civil Guard" and that many of them evolve with society, which requires adaptation. In this regard, in addition to insisting on the fight against gender violence, he valued the efforts of the agents to bring security to the roads of the province and their work to prosecute crime and organized crime.
He also mentioned the great challenge posed by cybercrime, against which "the Civil Guard does a tenacious and very difficult job", both to clarify these crimes and to achieve prevention. "In an aging province like ours, it's very important to inform people about possible scams that you can face when you turn on a screen," he said.
Finally, the deputy delegate congratulated all the civil guards on their anniversary and celebrated the fact that more and more women are in the body. "I conclude with a few words of gratitude and respect. Thank you for your work and for always being on the side of the people," he concluded.
