The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, today in Oleiros claimed the importance of having women referents in jobs traditionally associated with men. Fixoo in the framework of a conference organized by the Civil Guard, in collaboration with the City of Oleiros, in which eight women members of the different units of the armed institute offered their testimonies on the work they carry out on a daily basis and how they live their reality in a century-old institution that began to incorporate women into its staff just over three decades ago.
“Today the Civil Guard has more women than ever before and they already represent one in three new incomes in the body. In addition, they are ascending in the body and we will soon see a woman colonel or captain of the Civil Guard,” he said.
No act, which was attended by about 400 secondary school students from the Oil Institute María Casares, Miraflores, Neira Vilas and Daughters of Christ the King, María Rivas stressed the importance of the presence of women in this body, in all areas and specialties.
In this regard, the subdelegate stressed that the role of the Government of Spain in defining a normative framework that favors and promotes equality policies as the backbone of its public policies is also relevant.
María Rivas thanked the eight agents of the Civil Guard for their testimonies in this activity, which is part of the events on the occasion of International Women's Day, which is commemorated on March 8.
“I am proud to see the change experienced by a century-old institution like the Civil Guard, which until three decades ago did not allow women access to the Academy of Officers. These changes were possible thanks to the struggle that we, as a society, carried out to return women, who represent half of our population, to their rightful place. A fight that must not stop, not only to continue advancing, but not to backtrack in any of the conquests reached,” he concluded.
