The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, participated this Saturday in the act of tribute to Castelao, in which he claimed his figure as “heritage of all Galicians and Galicians”.
At the event, which was also attended by the mayor of Rianxo, Julián Bustelo, and the president of the Castelao Foundation, Miguel Anxo Seixas, and which included a floral offering, the delegate indicated that divulging his legacy “is the best way to pay tribute to him”. In this regard, he highlighted his struggle for democracy and for the search for a more egalitarian society, “claims that remain as valid as a century ago in the face of negationist discourses,” he said.
Pedro Blanco also warned about the threats to our culture as a people and our language “due to the neglect of the institutions that must look after it and that prefer to look the other way.” This respect called to bear in mind the words of the Rianxeiro politician and intellectual, who said that “a people without culture is a slave people”.
In his speech, the delegate also recalled that the Government “paid with Castelao part of the enormous debt that we all maintain with him” recognizing his figure dedicating the tribute to the victims of the Civil War and the Dictatorship in 2023. “A man who from politics and artistic and literary creation worked with his eyes on the common good, and for a goal that we share from this Government, which is to improve the lives of people, of all,” he added.
“His political and artistic legacy is today the heritage of Galicia and with this act of homage we can only thank him for the much he meant in the history of this town, Rianxo; but also of his town with capital letters: the Galician,” concluded Pedro Blanco.
