The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, reaffirmed this morning in a visit to Abegondo that "the Government Recovery Plan is reaching the whole territory" and put this municipality as an example of the impact of this Plan in the modernization of the concellos, in the environmental sustainability and in the improvement of the quality of life of the neighborhood, and how it is done in collaboration with the local governments.
The subdelegate supervised, together with the mayor of the municipality, José Antonio Santiso, the works that are carried out in the remodeling of the farm ‘Os Loureiros’. Rivas highlighted the importance of this type of aid from the PIREP program (Program to Promote the Rehabilitation of Public Buildings), from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda and that allows “to recover and rehabilitate in a sustainable way buildings as important for our heritage as the farm 'Os Loureiros'.
The project, which started in 2024 and is nearing completion, had a total investment of 1.55 million euros. “We work so that the neighbors of Abegondo have access to decent and practical facilities and, to corroborate this, we rely on this type of projects that not only represent an advance in the associative fabric of Abegondo but also an improvement in the quality of life of the neighborhood” said Rivas.
With the support of the Government it is possible to turn this building from the beginning of the 20th century into the new Pazo de la Cultura of Abegondo. “This type of aid allows the city to face an action that would be impossible only with municipal resources,” he said.
The works consist of the remodeling and rehabilitation of the main palacete and the annex pavilion, incorporating energy efficiency criteria through the installation of photovoltaic panels and rainwater storage capture systems. “The objective pursued with this type of rehabilitation is to maintain the original architecture of the colonial villa by incorporating innovative and efficient elements that respect the environment, ensuring a functional space and respectful of the environment,” added the deputy delegate.
Promotion of rehabilitation in the municipalities of A Coruña
María Rivas pointed out that in the province of A Coruña the local PIREP injects 11,730,184.13 euros to ten concellos to finance the rehabilitation of 11 buildings of its ownership. In the concello of Santiago the Pirep finances two works (3,319,427 euros to improve the sports facilities of Vite and Santa Isabel). In Cambre the rehabilitation of the municipal sports center with 1,591,590 euros; in Betanzos the Market of Supplies with 1,482,081 euros; in Porto do Son the House of the River with 241,537.50 euros; in Ribeira the restoration of the Town Hall with 2,836,394 euros and in Teo the integral reform school of Cacheiras with 407,774 euros.
In addition, the Pirep made possible the rehabilitation of the neighborhood of Serantes in Ferrol with 215,777 euros, the energy rehabilitation of the Consistorial House of Bergondo with 457,016 euros and the rehabilitation of the Pazo de Martelo and Municipal Library of Rianxo with 978,710 euros. The three already executed and inaugurated by the government’s own under-delegate recently.
“We talk about projects in which has a very important weight in environmental sustainability, since one of the objectives of the Program is to promote more energy-efficient public buildings along with accessibility and architectural quality,” stressed the subdelegate.
And added: “But, above all, we talk about projects that represent a before and an after for the public services provided by the municipalities in our country and therefore in this province. In this regard, the subdelegate highlighted “the social dimension and the impact on citizenship and public services” of the aid granted by the Ministry of Transport, which will allow the rehabilitation of sports centers, social centers, schools and municipal markets.
“We are a municipal government and the Public Buildings Rehabilitation Program (PIREP) is a good example of how we support municipalities so that they have infrastructures and means to offer quality services to their neighbors,” concluded María Rivas.
