The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted the government’s effort to promote the creation of green jobs that respond to the demands and needs of the Galician business fabric and contribute to the transition towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly model. In this sense, it highlighted the recent resolution of the grants to promote the training and hiring of people within the framework of the Employaverde+ Program, promoted by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO), which leave 1,785,904.43 euros in grants for nine projects in Galicia.
As the delegate explained, “these are funds that will facilitate many Galicians and Galicians access and adaptation to the labor market, the promotion of professional retraining and green entrepreneurship.” In addition, he pointed out that, although it is the Xunta that has the competences of employment in Galicia, “it is the Government that, with this type of initiatives, encourages the creation of more and better employment”, while welcoming the fact that Spain presents “the best occupancy data in its history”. That is why he asked the Xunta “to carry out all the necessary measures to accompany the Government on this path.”
In relation to the projects to be developed within the framework of the Employaverde+ program, Pedro Blanco indicated that the total amount of these is 2.85 million euros of which the Government, with the financing of the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+), contributes just over 60%, while the 14 entities that promote them, including companies, public administrations, associations, foundations, NGOs, academic sector, business and professional associations or unions, will be the ones that complete the rest of the investment.
Regarding the topics, he pointed out that these are initiatives that will respond to the growing environmental challenges facing the forestry sector; actions aimed at improving skills and entrepreneurship in ecotourism; training in sustainable agriculture and livestock; training aimed at young people at risk of social exclusion or rural women, or to facilitate generational change in different sectors through the circular economy, among others.
In the country as a whole, the amount of this aid amounts to 29.7 million euros distributed among 64 training projects that are expected to allow the training of more than 13,000 people, of which more than 7,500 are working people and 4,800 are laid off, and generate more than 350 new hires.
