The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, highlighted this morning the work that the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility does every year during the winter months to guarantee safety and movement on the more than 2,400 kilometers of state roads in Galicia. It was accompanied by the subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, in the presentation of the Winter Plan of the State Road Network in Galicia in the Center of Integral Conservation of Roads located in the City of O Pino.
Pedro Blanco and María Rivas supervised the facilities and means provided in this center, from which the road network of the southern area of the province of A Coruña is managed. The delegate thanked all the professionals assigned there, as well as all the institutions that collaborate for the good development of the Winter Road Plan, from the meteorological service of the AEMET, the DGT and the security forces and bodies, who work on the ground in the most extreme conditions and situations.
He also appealed to the common sense of the Galicians and Galicians and called for extreme precautions at the wheel, because “we all have to pay attention to the conditions of the vehicles and adapt the way of driving to the situation of the roads and the climate in the face of the months of inclemency ahead of us”.
The Winter Road Plan
The special device for the winter road campaign has been operational since November 1 and will be maintained until April 30, 2025. The media presented today are part of those deployed by the State in Galicia, with a total of 104 snow-removing machines and with about 20,000 tons of salt and a capacity of more than 3,257,000 liters in brine tanks.

The Winter Road Plan seeks to maintain an adequate level of service of the roads of the State Network and the Toll Roads, giving greater security to users and providing the most comfortable and fluid driving in the face of possible adverse weather conditions. Within the road operations, preventive actions are planned in the firm in situations of low temperatures on the roads of state competition.
O Pino Conservation Center
From the Conservation Center of O Pino, the A-54 Motorway is managed, from Lugo to Santiago de Compostela, which currently has under construction the Palaz-Melide-Arzúa section; the roads around Santiago SC-21 (access to Santiago Airport), SC-20 (Peripheral of Santiago de Compostela), SC-11, SC-30 (Orbital) and the itineraries to Ourense through the N-525, to Lugo with the N-547 with frequency of passage of the pilgrims of the Camino de Winepony,
The sector has 6 snow removal trucks, two of them trained for the extension of brine, 150 tons of salt in a warehouse and a brine plant suitable for capacity of 80,000 liters in the premises of the Conservation Center and 4 silos distributed in the section, one of them of 60 tons and the other of 100 tons each.
The climate of the sector is characterized by the continuous passage of fronts from the west associated with the Atlantic borrascas that make up the climate from November to April where most of the annual rainfall is recorded. The snowfall in the sector is #owe to the winds that cross the damp rías and that tend to discharge in higher quotas, this can mean two or three days a year, with 25 days of annual average of intense frost, with which preventive treatment is the most common operation.
