The deputy delegate of the Government, María Rivas, wanted to highlight the decisive commitment of the Executive in the achievement of equality and in the fight against male violence. Thus, both María Rivas and Evencio Ferrero, mayor of Carballo, valued the collaboration between the Local Police and the Civil Guard, forming specialized teams to work coordinated in the protection of women victims of gender violence through the VioGén system.
The subdelegate indicated that Carballo is one of the 28 municipalities of the province fully adhered to the VioGén system. During his speech, he invited the city council to set up its inter-institutional coordination table against gender violence, which already has 52 municipalities in the province, for which he offered the maximum collaboration of the Government.
The Government has the VioGén system as a tool to create a dense network that allows the rapid, comprehensive and effective monitoring and protection of battered women, and their children, in any part of the national territory. “Today more than ever, I want to call on all women victims of gender-based violence in the province to report, not be afraid, and take a step forward so that the system can help and protect them,” Rivas said.
The subdelegate of the Government stressed that the security forces and bodies work daily in a coordinated manner in the 2,655 active cases in VioGén in the province. “We work 24 hours a 365 days to protect each of the women who are within the VioGén system, there are 2,655 lives conditioned by machismo and lack of equality, and as a society we must give the coasts to violent and machista behaviors, pointing them out and denouncing them,” said the deputy delegate.
The search for equality and the fight against gender violence are fundamental axes of the Government’s action, which is also expressed in measures such as the State Pact, of which the Carballo city council is beneficiary, which received 123,605.45 euros since 2018, 17,519.96 in the last year, and whose purpose is to give local entities the capacity to develop equality policies, awareness-raising actions and activities aimed at achieving a more egalitarian society.
Another of the topics to be discussed at the meeting of the Local Security Xunta had to do with security and with the delight rates in the city council. After analyzing the citizen security data, the subdelegate wanted to value the collaboration and coordination of the security forces and bodies. In this regard, he stressed that the crime rate stands at 40 crimes per 1000 inhabitants, 11 points below the state average.
In addition, according to the data provided, the number of crimes maintains the same parameters as in the previous year, although crimes against road safety decrease significantly; in this regard, he wanted to highlight again the cooperation between institutions noting that “this collaboration is key, and I would especially like to thank the mayor, Evencio Ferrero, for the involvement and constant support. We will continue to work in this line to make Carballo an increasingly safe city hall.”
