The deputy delegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, visited the City of Neda, where together with its mayor Angel Alvariño Saavedra, they held a meeting with the board of directors of the Association of Rural Women Val do Belelle to learn about the activities of the association on the eve of the commemoration of the International Day of Rural Women.
The subdelegate of the government wanted to highlight the contribution made by rural women, and the entities that bring them together in the dynamization of life and economies in small municipalities. She recalled that women’s associations contribute to creating support networks, with activities that promote socialization, care and self-care, work in the prevention of violence and help the preservation of culture, customs and traditions and collaborate decisively in the conservation of our material and immaterial heritage.
Rivas indicated that in its annual statement, UN Women, it indicates that rural women are the guardians of nature and the future since they represent a quarter of the world’s population, which has in its hands to secure half of the world’s food supply.
It is the farmers who have learned the best to deal with climate change, adapting production to it and who more decisively choose more sustainable models of agriculture and livestock farming, more compatible with environmental protection and lead initiatives for the recovery of seeds, spaces and biodiversity.
For these reasons, the Government values its work and defends union and associationism as a key tool for improving the lives of women in rural areas.
María Rivas, indicated “the importance of union, cooperation and associationism as fundamental levers to improve professional and work life but also to improve the social dynamics of our towns and villages.”
Thus, during the visit to Neda, he claimed the Government’s firm commitment to feminist policies, training, generational change, as well as the promotion and participation of women in all areas, especially in the agro-livestock sector. This Government is that of the “Shared Ownership Law, the Government that promoted in Brussels a CAP with a gender perspective, and the one that works on the Statute of Women Farmers and Ranchers”, stressed the subdelegate.
Data from the province’s latest labour force register indicate that we have the same number of women as men working in the agro-livestock sector; and yet their work is much more invisible, so the subdelegate advocated on this date to continue working to value the contribution of women to the economy of the rural world, especially in the primary sector.
“We are aware of the challenges that rural women face every day, so we in the institutions must continue to bet decisively on providing elements that allow conciliation and co-responsibility. In this sense, the Government promotes measures, favors the extension of birth and care permits for dependent people, and also makes Galicia the community that receives the most funds for the maintenance of the dependency system”, 35.20% of the total cost, as recognized by the Observatory of the Dependency elaborated by the State Association of Directors and Managers in Social Services.
The Government is also committed to combating gender violence in rural areas, taking into account the specific characteristics of rural areas, where social pressure, lack of assistance resources and the model of intergenerational coexistence are differential factors.
The subdelegate stressed the importance of the resources that are dedicated from the State Pact against gender violence, which this year leaves in the municipalities of the province of A Coruña 762,935.24 euros to develop equality policies, awareness-raising actions and activities aimed at achieving a more egalitarian society and with zero tolerance with male violence.
The subdelegate also recalled that it is essential to empower and make visible the work of women. For this reason, he wanted to highlight the National Cycle of Cinema and Rural Women, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, which in the coming weeks will emphasize the province.
The exhibition includes more than 600 screenings and activities in 320 locations throughout the State. In addition, free network programming can also be accessed from tomorrow, October 15th and until October 30th through the web: Rural Woman (cineymujeresrurales.es)
