The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, visited today the Concello de Mondariz-Balneario to deliver one of the 17 Travelling Suitcases against Gender Violence' (MAVI) that travel through Galicia. This awareness-raising project is an initiative promoted by the Women ' s Violence Units of the Government ' s sub-delegations in the four provinces.
Not an act of dedication, the deputy delegate of the Government, Abel Losada, and the mayor of the municipality, César Gil, to whom Pedro Blanco thanked “to believe in this project and thus contribute to the promotion of equality and awareness.”
The delegate explained that this initiative aimed at concellos, associations, Women’s Information Centers, reading clubs, libraries, etc., aims to bring books of different topics related to feminism, equality, empowerment, self-esteem or male violence to women and girls, promoting awareness and prevention. With five active travel bags in the province of Pontevedra, one of them now returns to the municipality of Mondariz-Balneario, where it will remain for three months.
Pedro Blanco stressed “the responsibility of public institutions in the construction of a more just, egalitarian society and free of machista violence” and highlighted the fundamental role of the concellos as “the closest institution, and therefore, the most listened to, by the citizens”.
In this regard, the delegate encouraged all administrations to continue working for prevention, education and awareness on equal terms, since “the 5,547 active cases of gender violence registered by the VioGén System in Galicia, of which 1,680 are in Pontevedra, are unacceptable”.
The suitcase, which contains a dozen books written by women, will remain in the town hall of Mondariz-Balneario for three months, after which it will continue its journey through other concellos, shelters, associations of women victims of gender violence, libraries, women’s information centres or social services that request it.
Solidarity
The government delegate also wanted to thank “the commitment, responsibility and solidarity of the mayor and the neighbors of Mondariz-Balneario with the arrival of the migrants who come from the Canary Islands”. In this regard, the delegate explained that the Government will assume all costs of the stay of the 180 refugees in the villa and recalled that it is temporary. In addition, he stressed the importance of “fluid communication with all administrations, since the arrival of migrants is continuous and forecasts may vary”.
PERTE
During his visit to the municipality, the delegate reviewed with the mayor of Mondariz-Balneario the different projects and investments of the Government in the locality, which comes from benefiting from the last call of the Perte of the Water Cycle, with almost 5 million euros of the funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan to improve the water supply in the region. Pedro Blanco recalled that the Government of Pedro Sánchez has already invested 2.7 million euros in Mondariz Balneario with the aim of promoting initiatives to improve the welfare and quality of life of citizens.
