The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, made an institutional visit to the City of Boiro, where she held a meeting with its mayor, José Ramón Romero and members of the municipal corporation, with the aim of supervising the actions carried out in this city by Demarcation of Costas. The visit was accompanied by the Head of Coastal Demarcation of Galicia, Carlos Gil.
The subdelegate, approached one of the already completed actions that are the channeling of the creek on the beach of Barraña with the objective of improving the protection of the Public Marine-Terrestrial Domain, conditioning the creek and thus avoiding the meanders that diminish the sandy area. This action allows, therefore, the recovery of this area of the sandy area for the enjoyment of the neighbors and neighbors of Boiro.
The pipelines made with an improved foundation are complemented by two parallel barriers made with cylinders of recycled material, which help contain the walls of sand to avoid its collapse, at the same time as acting as safety barriers. The gutters also feature wooden walkways for pedestrian use.
Rivas and the mayor also traveled to the dam of Neixón, where works are being carried out to demolish the dam with the aim of allowing the recirculation of the currents in the inlet of Taragoña, which will result in the improvement of the hydrodynamic conditions of the estuary, favoring the recovery of marine ecosystems and the potential of shellfish.
The work consists of the elimination of the dique-espigón through the emptying and removal of 14,000 m3 of filling materials, for the recovery and improvement of the littoral edge with escollera stone from the work itself. The action in this case, has a budget of 227,572.32€
María Rivas pointed out during her visit that it is necessary to support the municipalities, especially the smallest ones, in the improvement of their infrastructures and in the regeneration of their spaces, as a mechanism to accompany them in order to improve services, and help them to curb the loss of population. It is about guaranteeing people living in coastal and rural municipalities a future in which they have the same opportunities for the whole neighbourhood.
