The subdelegate of the Government in Pontevedra, Abel Losada, announces that the Government of Spain will invest more than 7 million euros in three companies of the province in the framework of the PERTE of Circular Economy, promoted by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.
Foresa (Caldas de Reis), Alumisel (O Porriño) and Ecocelta (Ponteareas) will receive contributions from Next Generation funds worth more than 7 million euros to develop four projects aimed at improving waste management and reducing the consumption of virgin raw materials. The total investment of the four initiatives reaches 19.9 million euros.
The subdelegate stressed that this aid “will place Pontevedra at the head of Spain in the field of the circular economy, since it will allow the development of innovative and unique projects that contribute to advance #cara a greener and sustainable future”.
In this regard, Abel Losada highlighted the aid of 3,060,501 euros that will be received by the Chadian company Foresa for the start-up of a bioresin manufacturing plant in the town. This new center will be aimed at the manufacture and marketing of a new bioresin product, which will allow the replacement of conventional resins that use folmadehyde, a hazardous substance second to the European Union, and molybdenum, a metal critical to the industry.
The new bioresin will be made from a concentrate of tannins extracted from the bark of conifers from the waste of wood manufacturers in the area. Losada highlighted “the impact of a project like this, which adapts to the environment in which it is developed by offering an outlet to a surplus as common in our area as is the crust”. Second, the subdelegate explained, “the investment, which exceeds 9 million euros, foresees the execution of a pilot plant on a laboratory scale for the continuous improvement of the process and the execution of a plant on an industrial scale in parallel.”
In addition, the Alumisel plant in Porriño, aimed at the management of batteries and used vehicles, will receive two contributions worth 3,915,227 euros for the development of two projects in its facilities. The first will improve the efficiency of the metal recycling process by 65% through the integration of new equipment, which will increase the work capacity of the facilities and make possible the recovery of an industry-critical metal such as aluminum. The second aid will be aimed at the construction of a new metal waste recovery plant in the town. As he informed the subdelegate, the new facilities are expected to reduce by 90% the waste derived from metal recovery, which would be equivalent to almost 6,000 metric tons of waste per year, and recover 70% of non-metallic waste. Both investments will reach 10.5 million euros.
These contributions are in addition to the aid of 171,491 euros that the Biodiversity Foundation granted, in October, to the Pontearean company Ecocelta for the improvement of waste management within the framework of this Perte.
Abel Losada stressed that “this aid demonstrates the unstoppable progress of the funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan in the province, which are drawing Pontevedra of the future: more innovative, green and efficient”.
