The Deputy Delegate of the Government in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, conveyed condolences to the family of Andrea Yrrury after the male crime that occurred yesterday in the town of Palma, in the city of Ribeira, showing her revulsion and indignation at this new case of gender violence. The subdelegate presided over the minute of silence accompanied by the mayor of Lugo, Paula Alvarellos; councillors of the municipal corporation; the provincial deputy, Miguel Fernández; the commander of the Civil Guard, Carlos Barceló, and other members of the body; subinspectors of the National Police, as well as guards of the UFAM; and personnel of the Subdelegation and the General Administration of the State.
Isabel Rodríguez called for “absolute condemnation of any kind of violence against women, in all places, at all hours and with the utmost force.” He determined that male violence “remains one of the main issues of the State, but without the unfailing awareness of the whole society it will be very complex to change the structures that perpetuate it.”
In this sense, he stressed that “the irresponsibility of some public representatives who deny male violence can have irreparable consequences, confusing society and whitewashing a type of violence that is tremendously difficult to combat and that biases the life of women for the simple fact of being so.”
