The mayor of Lugo, Paula Alvarellos, anunicou this morning that Lugo will have a new National Police station. “As you know, the local government offered the Ministry two plots months ago that meet the necessary characteristics to undertake the new construction of the police station according to the standards set by the Economic and Technical Division of the National Police. Of these two proposed plots, the one finally chosen is located in the neighborhood of Abella”, said the councilor in a hearing in which she was accompanied by the delegate of the Government in Galicia, Pedro Blanco; by the subdelegate in Lugo, Isabel Rodríguez, as well as by the Superior Chief of the National Police in Galicia, Ramón Gómez Nieto, and the Provincial Commissioner.
It is a land on Orquidea Street, specifically at its confluence with Aquilino Iglesia Alvariño. The land has an extension of 2,117 square meters and is catalogued as soil for equipment. “In this way, we fulfilled our commitment to bring the new police station to the northern part of the city. Commitment that was made with the neighborhood groups of these neighborhoods and that for us was unbreakable. We have been working in coordination with the central government for years so that our city has a new headquarters of the National Police adapted to the standards of the 21st century and that can meet the needs and demands of both the members of this Corps and the citizens,” continued Alvarellos.
For his part, the government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, recalled that the Lugo police station is a priority work for the central executive. “Today is a starting point. There is no turning back. This is an ambitious challenge in which we will spare no effort, no resources,” said Blanco, who highlighted the optimal stiuation of the plot to accommodate this new thirst since, according to the technicians, it has easy and convenient access for users and quick and agile communication for the provision of police services linked to citizen security.
“We have thus overcome years of traffic jams and backward marches that are not deserved by this city, let alone by the National Police. We opted for a new building and not for pilgrim solutions that went through reforms of buildings of other administrations. A patch they didn’t make in nearly 20 years. The one that we present today is a solution for the future and consensus, which depends only on these administrations that we are represented here today,” concluded Blanco, who grasped the involvement of the former mayor, Lara Médez and congratulated the current one, Paula Alvarellos, for solving this issue in just one month in office, “which shows her worth to achieve all the goals of the Lucenses,” he said.
Before concluding, Alvarellos Fondo said that it wants the new project to be a reality in the shortest possible time. “Right now we are studying which formula is the most flexible to carry out the transfer procedure and make this land available to the Ministry so that the new Abella police station can be included in the Infrastructure Plan for State Security in force and begin as soon as possible the bidding process for this much-needed project,” he said.
Both the councilor and the delegate appreciated the collaboration and commitment shown at all times by the Ministry as well as the effort invested by the head of the Economic and Technical Division of the National Police to make this objective take shape. Both had words of recognition for the Superior Chief of the National Police in Galicia, Ramón Gómez Nieto, and for the Provincial Commissioner, Luis Romera. “Without a doubt, today is a great day for the city,” Alvarellos concluded.
