The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, took advantage of his visit to the city of A Gudiña to highlight the commitment and impulse of the Government of Pedro Sánchez with the digital transition and the improvement of connectivity to all points of the community. He detailed that the UNICO-Broadband Program will facilitate broadband connection with ultra-fast speed to 987 homes and companies in 83 areas of this city, reaching 90% of the territory.
Adding up the ongoing projects, the government will bring the ultra-fast fiber internet connection to 236,154 households and companies in Galicia by the end of 2025. In total, the three calls represent an investment of 91 million euros in the Galician community.
Pedro Blanco went to the City Council of A Gudiña where he held a meeting with the mayor, Néstor Ogando, to supervise the state investments in this municipality and know their demands. He also reported on the Government ' s various programmes available in the areas of housing, ecological transition, social welfare and public administration.
The delegate put A Gudiña as an example of the Government’s commitment to small municipalities, “which are called to be protagonists of the transformation of Spain into a green, digital, sustainable and cohesive country, to achieve the objectives of the demographic challenge” and “the Government’s commitment to rural development”.
Among the three calls for the UNICO Plan, the Government invests in the province of Ourense 23.6 million euros to bring high-speed connection technology to more than 55,700 homes and companies in the province. In this regard, the delegate explained that the Government subsidizes 80% of the cost of the projects in Galicia, which are an example of public-private collaboration, since companies contribute what remains up to the entire cost of these actions. Projects must be completed by 31 December 2025.
Plan UNICO Rural Demand
The government delegate also highlighted the call for the Single Rural Demand Plan that improves coverage in remote and rural areas at an affordable price , “impacting on democratization and breaking the digital divide.”
This program is possible thanks to the satellite technology awarded to Hispasat by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation and which allows access to high speed in remote territories where fixed technology cannot be available at a price that cannot be higher than € 35 per month. Blanco pointed out that this is “very good news for a province with a territorial and mountainous extension such as Ourense”.
