The government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, traveled today to Ponte Maceira, in the municipalities of Negreira and Ames, to put in value the program of the 2% cultural that the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda allocates to the financing of actions of rehabilitation of the Historical Heritage and that mobilized about 8 million euros in Galicia in recent years.
The delegate chose Ponte Maceira to make this presentation as it was one of the last places to be included in the list of Goods of Cultural Interest (BIC) of Galicia. The visit was accompanied by the Government’s deputy delegate in A Coruña, María Rivas, and the mayors of Ames, Blas García, and Negreira, *Ángel Leis. With them, he appealed to the Galician municipalities to take advantage of the 80 million euros offered by this call for aid, whose deadline for applications ends on October 15. “It is an extraordinary opportunity for municipalities to undertake this type of restoration work that, otherwise, we understand would be very difficult to carry out,” he said.
Pedro Blanco stressed that the Government’s commitment to the conservation and enhancement of heritage is reflected in the increase in the percentage of funding for this program. Thus, the percentage of all investments made in infrastructure to supply this initiative rose from 1.5% to 2%. This decision translates into an additional 20 million euros, up to a total of 80 million euros available in this year's call. With this amount, the government plans to mobilize investments of 110 million and carry out more than 100 actions throughout Spain.
In recent years, this same program mobilized about 8 million euros in Galicia, of which 5.2 million were contributed by the Government. This aid was allocated to 11 actions that had a strong impact in the four provinces. The most outstanding ones are the restoration of the Casa de la Veeduría in A Coruña, for which the Government approached 1,287,257 euros; the restoration of the historicist pavilion and the perimeter wall of Sano Martín Pinario in Santiago, which was helped by 861,004 euros, and the rehabilitation of the Quintáns pazo in Sanxenxo, which the Government financed with 1,380,736 euros.
