The subdelegate of the Government in A Coruña, María Rivas, today approached Betanzos where, together with the mayor, María Barral, she toured the historic center to value the Government’s aid of 1.4 million euros for the revitalization of trade, within the framework of the Recovery Plan.
The project aims to strengthen the trade of Betanzos through the connection of three commercial axes: municipal market, open shopping center and travelling market. The aim is to create a cohesive and sustainable commercial offer.
The subdelegate highlighted the richness and uniqueness of the Betanceira commercial offer with the 153 establishments that are in the historic center, the municipal market stands, which once rehabilitated will amount to 12 and the weekly fair with 150 stands
“This Government is clear that it is essential to support this commercial network because of the economic impact it represents for Betanzos and because it is also a differentiating element that must be taken care of and optimized,” said the deputy delegate.
María Rivas stressed that of the 300 municipalities that presented themselves for this call, Betanzos was one of the 50 to which this aid was granted. In this regard, he congratulated the mayor "for the job well done" since the project presented managed to remain in the 18th place of the score.
The subdelegate stressed the importance of this assistance from the Government to carry out a project that gives identity to the commercial area, enhances mobility and accessibility in the three axes. He also stressed the importance of new technologies to create new sales and distribution channels and sustainability to revalue the zero-kilometre products “so important in the Betanceira economy”.
“Betanzos has in itself a commercial potential that must be optimized, cohesive and modernized with the new technologies,” said María Rivas, who said that “with this aid it will be able to consolidate a trade that will have its own distinctive identity.”
Among other actions, the project includes the installation of interactive totems that offer information about the shops, commercial associations and the different tourist attractions of Betanzos. There will be parking for bicycles and scooters in the vicinity of the market, with chargers for electric vehicles, installation of landscaped areas conditioned for rest with solar chargers , lighting and adapted urban furniture.
New packaging designs for the local trade will also be created and promoted as a sustainable and reusable alternative to plastic or paper. There will also be no shortage of smart collection points and ecological islands for the collection and separation of waste.
María Rivas highlighted the investment of €6.5 million that the Government is making in Betanzos through the Recovery Plan. He recalled the 1.8M€ of the Tourism Sustainability Plan; the 1.8M€ of the municipal market and the 1.5M€ destined for the Pastime.
“Without a doubt, all these investments will help Betanzos become even more consolidated as a tourist, gastronomic and commercial reference in accordance with the new times such as sustainability and technology,” said María Rivas.
María Rivas showed her confidence in the development and positioning of Betanzos as a differentiated commercial municipality and as a showcase for the zero-kilometre products of the tourist destination in which it is framed. Factors that, second, the subdelegate argued will positively result in both the number of visitors and purchases.
Local Security Board
The visit to Betanzos also served to coordinate security in the next Festivities of San Roque, which are held between August 14 and 25 of this month and which are declared of National Tourist Interest. In this sense, Rivas stressed the “total willingness” to collaborate with the City Council from the Subdelegation and from the State Security Forces and Corps to contribute so that these festivities can be celebrated safely and calmly “so that the thousands of people who come here year after year can enjoy these festivities with intensity”.
The festivities of Betanzos will also have a violet point in which information will be received against any type of male violence and to which you can go to request help if necessary.
