Ourense, April 13, 2023.- The program "MAVI: the travelling suitcase against gender violence" of the Government Subdelegation begins today a new stage in which two suitcases will travel to the Information Centers for battered women of the province of Ourense. The project started last November, as part of the commemorative events of the 25th International Day against Violence against Women and promotes the reading of books with a feminist perspective to create strengths in which men and women can face personal relationships and be able to set limits.
The Subdelegate of the Government, Emilio González, and the director of the Gender Violence Unit in the province, Alida Iglesias, held this morning a meeting in the Subdelegation of the Government with representatives of 10 of the 17 CIMM in the province of Ourense to present the program.
Emilio González highlights the "importance and relevance of this program in women's empowerment and the great reception it had in which 10 of the 17 centers requested to join the program."
Among the centers that have applied to join the program are the Community of Santa Águeda of the City of Vilamarín, Father Feijoo of the City of Pereiro de Aguiar, the CIMM of the City of Ourense, the City of Carballeda de Avia, the Community of Terras de Celanova, Community Conso Frieiras and Community Ribeiro; as well as the CIMM of the City of Carballiño, Barbadás and Viana do Bolo.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the National Police, Local Police of Ourense and Autonomous Police who are within the unit of Viogen and who will participate in the monthly colloquium talks that will be held as part of the program in the different information centers to which the suitcase travels.
MAVI contains a total of sixteen titles of literary texts that promote reflection, awareness and awareness on key issues to achieve a more egalitarian and violence-free society, promoting critical thinking against stereotypes and gender roles that perpetuate violence and inequalities. Alida Iglesias explains that “through books and stories they can be reflected in situations from which they become aware that they can move forward”.

In this regard, the Subdelegate of the Government stresses that this is a continuation of a program that has been developed since November 25 in the penitentiary center of Pereiro de Aguiar where the suitcase remained more than 2 months in the women's module and also in the CTI module - intrapenitentiary therapeutic behaviors - managed by Proyecto Hombre. González Afonso highlighted the positive nature of these talks and the participation and involvement of inmates, favoring their behaviors.
Where in the coming months, the fellows of the module will be able to access the different readings and share their experiences as members of the National Police, Civil Guard and Local Police teams that work with victims of male violence in the VioGen system of the province. .
