The government delegate in Galicia, José Miñones, has highlighted how the government of Pedro Sánchez takes another step towards the strategic connection of Galicia with Europe with the future Atlantic Railway Corridor, which has been presented today in Gijón. José Miñones attended this morning the official presentation of this infrastructure by the new Government Commissioner for the Atlantic Corridor, José Antonio Sebastián, and the Secretary of State for Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, David Lucas. Previously, he also participated in the meeting that brought together officials from the Ministry of Transport and the Autonomous Communities of the Northwest through which the future corridor will circulate.
After the presentation, the delegate has highlighted the announcements of deadlines and investments in this work, which match those announced for the Mediterranean Corridor, “which reaffirms the unquestionable commitment of the Government to a priority action for the economy of Galicia”. Thus, he recalled that the General State Budgets of 2023 collected 1,648 million euros in investments to advance in completing and expanding the Atlantic corridor, a figure very similar to that reserved for the Mediterranean Corridor.
He has also welcomed the new Government Commissioner for the Atlantic Corridor, in his first official act, to whom he transferred the collaboration of the Government Delegation in Galicia in their responsibilities. The delegate recalled that this figure has been created to accelerate the expansion and completion of the Atlantic Corridor and to take advantage of the unique opportunity of the European NextGenerationEU recovery funds to meet this objective.
The delegate pointed out that the development and success of the Atlantic Corridor necessarily depends on the collaboration of all administrations and the interest of the private sector, which is who will have to exploit it in the future. In this line, he has appealed to the necessary collaboration of the Xunta and the cooperation of the Galician business sector to “do a joint work for this infrastructure and the development of Galicia”.
