· The government delegate calls on drivers to take extreme precautions and respect traffic regulations
The General Directorate of Traffic foresees a total of 1,421,606 long-distance journeys in the area of influence of the Valencian Community, 13% of the national total, during the special operation Bridge in December. The Valencian Community is the recipient of much of the tourist traffic that comes from Madrid and the provinces around the center of the peninsula. In the special traffic operation, traffic regulation, management and surveillance measures will begin on Tuesday, December 5, at 3:00 p.m. until midnight on Sunday, December 10.
In this period, there will be a significant movement of vehicles throughout the Spanish road network, with long and short journeys; these journeys will significantly affect the roads whose destination is the mountain areas for winter sports. Other destinations will also be the tourist areas of rest and those of second residence.
The government delegate to the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has called on drivers to “take extreme precautions and respect the traffic regulations”. Bernabé recalled that it is “essential to avoid distractions, putting the mobile in airplane mode, wearing the safety belt and well anchored minors in their child restraint systems, respect the speed established on the road and adapt it to the conditions of the road and, of course, not get behind the wheel if alcohol or other drugs have been ingested”.
TRAFFIC FORECASTS AND MEASURES
The DGT recalls that the departure of the large urban centers will take place in two phases, the first, more significant, on Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 for the beginning of the “bridge” period and the second, will comprise Thursday 7 and Friday 8 for the beginning of the holiday and weekend. On the other hand, the return will be focused mainly on the last day, December 10. In the rest of the intermediate days within this same period, there will be movements in the alternating output-entry direction coinciding with the public holidays included within this Traffic Operation.
The most unfavorable hours to travel these days are concentrated between 16.00 and 21.00hs on Tuesday 5 and Thursday 7; 10.00hs and 14.00hs on Wednesday 6 and 10.00hs to 14.00hs and 16.00hs to 21.00hs on Sunday 10.
In order to encourage traffic in the most sensitive areas, the DGT has provided, among other measures, for the maximum use of available human resources, the paralysis of work on the roads, and the restriction of the movement of lorries in general and those transporting certain goods in certain sections, dates and times.
