The delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, held a meeting today, Friday 23, with the president of the Valencian Association of Cinema Entrepreneurs (AVECINE), Antonio Martí.
The objective of the meeting was to address the details of the Senior Cinema program, an initiative approved by the Government of Spain that will allow, one day a week, cinema tickets to have a reduced price of 2 euros for people over 65 years old.
To do this, interested showrooms must join the program – through this link – so they will receive a grant according to the number of tickets they sell at a reduced price. “The government will invest 10 million euros in aid that will cover the difference between the ordinary entry price and the reduced price of 2 euros, with a maximum eligible of 3 euros per entry,” said Bernabé.
The Comunitat Valenciana has 94 cinemas, 13% of the total in Spain. According to the government delegate, “practically half of the Comunitat’s halls have already joined the program.” “We hope that, in the next few hours, many more will be added,” said Barnabas.
For the delegate, “it is essential to promote the attendance at the cinema of the elderly, since they are the ones who are taking the most time to resume the habit before the pandemic”. “The initiative has a double aspect: on the one hand, active and healthy aging is promoted and, on the other, support is given to a sector that was very punished by Covid-19 and that is having a hard time recovering,” he said.
