February 12, 2024.- Between 22 and 26 of last January, the General Directorate of Traffic carried out one of its usual surveillance and control campaigns focused on this occasion on vehicles dedicated to school and child transport, in order to verify that they comply with the regulations established for this type of transport.
During the five days that the campaign lasted, 387 vehicles were controlled by the agents of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard of Castilla y León and, of them, one in three (121 vehicles) was punished with a total of 208 complaints filed.
As usual, the administrative irregularities are those that have generated the greatest number of complaints, among them 78 for not having special authorization to carry out school transport and 35 for not having signed unlimited liability insurance, as required by law.
With regard to the use of the safety belt in those vehicles that have them incorporated, in the inspections carried out by the agents, it was found that only 1 vehicle that had these restraint systems was not used because of anomalies in their operation.
It is also important to highlight the fact that none of the school transport drivers controlled during the campaign tested positive for the preventive alcohol and drug checks carried out by the agents. Nor was any driver sanctioned for breaching the established speed limits.
OTHER VIOLATIONS
The agents of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard have also verified that 4 school transport vehicles had deficiencies in service and emergency doors, as well as in their drive devices and another 7 were reported for not having up to date the Technical Inspection of Vehicles.
With regard to the mandatory signage that this type of vehicles must carry, 14 of the controlled vehicles did not carry the corresponding V-10 school transport signal and another 5 did not have the lighting device with an emergency signal.
In addition, 1 driver was reported for not carrying on board the coach a person in charge of child care when this was appropriate and no driver was reported for excessive driving time or reduced rest time.
