The Delegation of the Government of Spain in Cantabria has observed this noon a minute of silence for the last confirmed victim of gender violence, a 49-year-old woman allegedly murdered by her partner in Zaragoza on November 4.
The Government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, led this minute of silence at the gates of the headquarters of Calvo Sotelo in which the Secretary General of the Government Delegation, Santiago García, and the head of the Unit of Coordination of Violence on Women of the institution, Diana Mirones, participated.
They have also taken part in this act of revulsion for the third life taken away by gender violence this week by members of the National Police and the Civil Guard along with their top officials in Cantabria, the Superior Chief of Police, Carmen Martínez, and the Chief of the Civil Guard, Lieutenant Colonel Julio Postigo.
After the confirmation of this case in Zaragoza, there are already 36 women victims of male violence in Spain so far in 2025, with 17 children orphaned. Since 1 January 2003 there are records, 1,331 women have been killed by their partners or ex-partners.
Casares has condemned this new machista murder and has advanced that, from now on, the Government Delegation in Cantabria will observe a minute’s silence at noon and will read a manifesto every time a victim is confirmed by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, following the protocol of the Ministry of Equality.
“We will not stop raising our voices until women live free, safe and without fear in Cantabria and throughout our country,” said the government delegate.
