• The government delegate in Cantabria spoke this Friday at the inauguration of the Assembly of the Federation of Municipalities that was held in Ruente
The government delegate in Cantabria, Pedro Casares, has praised the commitment of the Government of Spain to face the “shared challenges” with the municipalities of the autonomous community such as improving public services, guaranteeing “greater financing” to local entities or fighting depopulation by ensuring more connectivity or better transport.
Casares pointed this out during his speech this Friday at the inauguration of the 38th Assembly of the Federation of Cantabrian Municipalities (FMC), which was held in Ruente and in which the regional president, María José Sáenz de Buruaga, the president of the FMC, Javier Camino, and the mayor of Ruente, Jaime Díaz Villegas, also spoke.
The representative of the State in the community has claimed that the Government of Spain "is structuring Cantabria with the greatest public investment of democracy to improve our infrastructures", such as the nearby railway network or the State Road Network. At this point, he referred to concrete projects such as the integral reform of the Hermida Gorge, which is “a before and an after” for the region of Liébana.
In addition, he stressed that the Government of Pedro Sánchez has been committed for seven years to “return to the municipalities the autonomy and resources so that they continue to improve people’s lives and contribute to the progress of our country.”
“Therefore, we have spoken so many times about the need to reform the legislative framework of the municipalities as well and, therefore, the municipalities of Cantabria, through the installments on account, are receiving from the Government of Spain the highest income in your history,” he said.
In this regard, he also recalled that next year Cantabria will receive 2,700 million euros of payments on account, 8% more than this year, and that it is “the largest figure ever contributed to the community” by the State and with which, he said, “the regional government can also finance many of the projects that later reach the municipalities”.
“COMMON HOUSE OF POLITICS OF SMALL THINGS”
Before the representatives of the 102 municipalities of Cantabria, Casares assured that “from the Government of Spain we want to be the common house of the politics of small things that transform in great the reality of every corner of Cantabria”, but also “promote the great projects that advance our land”.
Thus, he recalled that the protocol that ensures the arrival of high speed to Reinosa has been signed, with its corresponding performances in Reinosa and Campoo de En medio, advances the grounding of the train tracks in Torrelavega, the first performances of the railway integration of Santander have been listed for 41 million euros and next Monday, October 20, has advanced, the protocol will be signed to cover the tracks in Maliaño, in Camargo.
“Ideas and shared projects, which are the result of the joint work between all, but also of the commitment of this Government to make the Cantabrian projects a reality”, added the delegate of the Government, who also referred to the increase of the troops of the State Security Forces or the arrival in the consistories of European funds.
“We’re going to be there. We are always and will be at your side, showing that this is a work of everyone, of the 102 municipalities of Cantabria, of those 600 neighborhood councils, which make Cantabria a better Cantabria”, said Casares, who also, in his speech, has valued the municipal policy.
“EXAMPLE OF THE BEST POLICY”
Thus, he has affirmed that mayors and councilors are “examples of the best politics, of good politics, of which he knows how to understand that it is better to add than subtract, multiply than divide”, and who are aware that “all that matters are your neighbors and neighbors”.
“The mayors of Cantabria are examples of agreement, true schools of democracy. Each and every one of you, be it from a political party, a neighborhood group or an independent party, don’t mind working with the mayor of the municipality next door if you can achieve together a benefit for your people and that is the very essence of politics: the agreement to move forward,” said Casares.
In addition, he has praised that the municipal policy is that of “small actions” that change the lives of citizens, with a street lamp, a bank, a pedestrian path or a bike lane. “Municipal policy is not a question of power, it is a question of service, that is why my personal and political commitment is to make the Delegation of the Government of Spain in Cantabria an institution open and with the hand extended to everyone,” he said.
