Adif plans to integrate the railway in the town of Maliaño, in order to favor the permeability of the infrastructure and create a green space, integrated in the development of the urban core. This was explained this afternoon by the president of Adif and Adif AV, María Luisa Domínguez, in a meeting with the mayor of Camargo, Esther Bolado, and the residents of the municipality, which has also been attended by the president of the Government of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla.
The operation - valued preliminarily at about 15 million euros - proposes the covering of the Torrelavega - Santander line in a stretch of 275 m, in addition to about 140 m of Francisco Rivas and Julio de Pablo streets, on two structures that will allow to eliminate the railway barrier. The height of these roads will be reduced in the covered sections, facilitating urban integration, minimizing the affection to the Park of Cros and maintaining the access to the two public car parks located at its ends.
The roof will generate a new public space of approximately 17,500 m2, accessible, which will be urbanized -including furniture and urban endowments, such as benches, street lights, recreational areas, etc.- and will integrate into the environment through pedestrian itineraries suitable for people with reduced mobility, a new green space that will connect with the parks of Cros and Lorenzo Cagigas, and the grounding of the existing airline.
All these actions will be completed with the intervention on railway facilities (electrification, security and communications, drains, etc. ), adapting them to the new configuration. They will also be compatible with the future duplication of the railway line, as well as with the urban development of the town, according to the Integral Plan of Internal Reform (PERI) Varona.
Agreement to develop and regulate the actions
The actions will be developed and regulated through an agreement in which Adif, the Government of Cantabria and the City of Camargo are already working.
Adif will write the projects and execute the works, also assuming part of the financing, in which the Autonomous Government and the City Council will also participate. The latter will also contribute the land of municipal ownership, and will participate in the technical direction of the urbanization.
In addition, a second phase of complementary integration interventions, beyond the agreement, coordinated between the local and regional administrations and Adif may be contemplated.
These actions contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 9, which promotes the development of reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructure, as well as 11, which seeks to provide access to safe, sustainable and accessible transport systems within its overall goal of achieving inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities.
