A total of 1,780,061 voters are called to the polls in the Canary Islands next Sunday, July 23 to vote in the general elections, in which in the two provincial constituencies of the Canary Islands a total of 15 deputies will be elected and in the island constituencies a total of 11 senators.
In 23J, the Canarian electoral census recorded an increase of 53,216 people compared to the last general elections held on November 10, 2019, which implies an increase of 3.08% in the number of voters.
Of the approximately 1.8 million Spanish voters in the Canary Islands, 898,852 are voters from the province of Las Palmas, while the remaining 881,209 are from the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Likewise, 1,617,283 are residents of the Canary Islands while 162,778 reside abroad.
In these general elections, as happened in those of November 10, 2019 and as a result of the calculation made in application of article 162 of Organic Law 5/1985, of June 19, of the General Electoral Regime (LOREG), in the province of Las Palmas 8 deputies will be elected and in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife 7 deputies.
And, as stated in Article 69.3 of the Spanish Constitution and in accordance with Article 165 of the LOREG, the islands of Gran Canaria and Tenerife will elect 3 senators each, while El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote choose one senator for each island constituency.
For the province of Las Palmas, 11 candidacies are presented to the Congress of Deputies, while for the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife 9 are presented. For the Senate, in Gran Canaria 10 candidacies are presented, in the islands of Tenerife, La Palma and Fuerteventura there are 9, and 7 candidacies in El Hierro, La Gomera and Lanzarote.
Next Sunday, 2,943 polling stations (1,379 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and 1,564 in Las Palmas) will be distributed throughout the Archipelago in a total of 1,052 polling stations, 537 in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and 515 in Las Palmas, data that remains practically unchanged with respect to the recent local and regional elections on May 28.
In this election, a total of 2,943 representatives of the Administration will collaborate, who collect the data of participation and scrutiny, and who give assistance to the 8,829 people who make up the electoral tables in the Canary Islands.
Likewise, for these general elections there will be 1,156 electronic devices, 578 in each province, which will allow the representatives of the Administration to transmit the participation and scrutiny data to the Ministry of the Interior.
Security device
To ensure that the general elections are held with the greatest guarantees of security and order in the Archipelago, on July 23, a cash consisting of a total of 4,365 Security Forces and Corps agents will be deployed on July 23 throughout the islands.
In total, there will be 3,765 members of the State Security Forces and Corps: 2,100 of the National Police and 1,665 of the Civil Guard, which will be joined by 533 local police officers and 67 of the General Corps of the Canary Police.
