The Government Delegation in Asturias organizes this Tuesday, December 2, at 11 a.m. the talk/colloquium ‘From Censorship to TikTok: Freedom in 50 years’, a meeting aimed at students to deepen the evolution of freedoms and rights in Spain from the Transition to the present. The activity is held in the House of Culture of Vegadeo.
The event will be presented by the government delegate in Asturias, Adriana Lastra, and is part of the institutional initiative ‘Spain in freedom. 50 years’, designed to bring the meaning of living in a democracy closer to the citizens — and especially to young people.
The session consists of an intergenerational dialogue with:
- Borja Fernández, populariser known as “Memorias de Pez”, referent in social networks for his pedagogical work bringing history to young audiences
- Carmen García, professor of Contemporary History at the University of Oviedo, specialist in social and political processes in recent Spain
Both will contrast daily life in the dictatorship with the current reality, marked by new forms of expression, communication and social participation. Through historical examples, academic reflections and cultural references, the talk seeks to offer students a critical look at the value of freedoms and rights in democracy, as well as the challenges posed by the present.
This activity is in addition to others already held by the Government Delegation in Asturias such as the talk-colloquium ‘The rights of women in democracy’ held in the Historical Archive of Asturias; the talk-colloquium ‘Social changes in the Rural Environment’ held in the Museum of the East of Asturias, in Porrúa, Llanes; and the cultural meeting ‘Radiu Barullu. Half a Century of Cultural Change’, celebrated in La Benéfica de Piloña. With this set of actions, the Delegation reinforces its commitment to democratic dissemination, citizen participation and historical memory.
