In 2024, there were 25 fatal accidents on the roads of Asturias in which 27 people lost their lives, in addition to 121 others requiring hospitalization. Compared to 2023, fatal accidents (-10) and deaths (-11) decreased, with an increase in hospitalized injuries (+6).

MOBILITY, PARK AND CENSUS OF DRIVERS
With regard to travel, nationally, in 2024 there were 462.9 million long-distance movements, 3.15 percent more than in 2023, being the highest figure in history. In Asturias, the increase in displacement is also estimated at around three percent. As far as the vehicle fleet and the driver census are concerned, the increase has not reached one percent.
FIRST ACCIDENT ANALYSIS
By type of track. Conventional roads continue to be the ones that register the most deaths, contributing 81% of the total (22). With regard to 2023, there are six people who lost their lives on these types of roads and five on motorways and motorways.

By type of accident. The road departure was the accident that caused the most deaths, 59% (16 people, one more than in 2023). There were also two pedestrians who died (one more than the previous year). In the rest of the accidents the fatalities were reduced, being the most prominent decreases in the frontal collision (-5) and in the lateral and frontolateral (-4).

By type of user. Vulnerable groups and media accounted for 30% (eight) of the total number of deaths, eight less than in 2023, being very significant the decrease in the number of deceased motorcycle users that went from 15 in 2023 to five in 2024. Pedestrians who lost their lives (they go from one to two) and moped users (+1) increase. The means of displacement with the most deaths was tourism with 16 (+1).
By age. The age groups 35 to 44 and 45 to 54 account for almost half of the deaths (48%, 13). With respect to 2023 the greatest decreases were in the ages of 55 to 64 (-5) and over 65 (-5). The only age range in which the mortal victims grow is from 25 to 34, which goes from one to three. As for those under the age of 14, there was one deceased.
By sex. As usual, the number of men far exceeds that of women. In 2024, 81% of the deaths were men (22) and 19% women (five), six men and five women less than in 2023.
Per month. According to the month in which the victims died, the largest number of them occurred in October (five, 19%), followed by January, June, August and November with three people each. February was the only month without any fatalities.
Safety accessories. Five of the 16 deceased tourism users did not use a seatbelt. All the motorcycle and moped fatalities were wearing the helmet at the time of the accident.
At the national level, in terms of the location of the accidents, Andalusia and Catalonia recorded the highest numbers of victims, with 20% and 12% respectively of the total. At the opposite extreme, La Rioja and Cantabria were the regions with the lowest numbers of fatalities.
The biggest increases are recorded in Andalusia with 35 deaths more than in 2023 and the Comunitat Valenciana with 22 more fatalities. The largest reductions have occurred in Extremadura (-20) and in Catalonia (-16).
