In 2022, 22 fatal accidents occurred on the roads of Asturias, in which 22 people died and another 90 were seriously injured. These figures represent one more deceased than in 2019 (reference year) and within the historical series 2012-2022 it is the fifth year with the lowest number of deceased, taking into account the mobility limitations suffered in 2020 and 2021.
The figure of 90 serious injuries as a result of a road accident has been reduced by 25 people compared to 2019 and within the 2012-2022 series represents the lowest number of victims.
MOBILITY, PARK AND CENSUS OF DRIVERS
In terms of mobility, 439.8 million long-distance movements by road were recorded nationwide last year, which is 3% more than those made in 2019 (427.1 million).
The vehicle fleet has increased by 3.6% compared to 2019, reaching 35.6 million vehicles, and the driver census has increased by 0.82%, to 27.5 million drivers.
IN DEPTH
By type of track. 16 people (73%) died on conventional roads and 6 (27%) on motorways. Compared to 2019, the number of deaths on conventional roads increased by 2 and fell by 1 on motorways and motorways.
By type of accident. Sixty-eight per cent of the deceased (15) had their way out, followed by a pedestrian attack with 14 per cent (3) and a rear and multiple collision with 9 per cent (2). By comparison with 2019, there are 5 fatalities per lane departure, 2 deaths per rear and multiple collision and 1 fatality per pedestrian, descending in frontal collision (-3), rollover (-3) and another type (-1).

By mode of travel. The highest number of deaths occurred in tourism (7), followed by motorcycle (5), another vehicle (5), pedestrian (3), van (1) and bicycle (1). The fatal victims of motorcycle users (2), pedestrians (1), bicycles (1) and other vehicles (1) grow, descending in the rest of the media.
Significant is the high number of vulnerable deaths (pedestrians, bicycle users, and motorcycle users), which represent 41% of the total (9) and which experience a significant growth in both number and percentage compared to recent years.
By age. The group of people over 65 with 32% (7) is the one with the highest number of deaths, followed by those from 35 to 44, 45 to 54 and 55 to 64 with 4 victims each. The loss of a child under 14 years of age stands out. With respect to 2019 there is a sharp decrease (-6) of people from 25 to 34 years old.
By sex. As usual, the number of men far exceeds that of deceased women. In particular, during 2022, 17 men (77%) and 5 women (23%) lost their lives, two fewer men and three more women than in 2019.
Per month. The months with the highest number of deaths were April, May and July with 3 victims each, followed by January, June, August and November with 2 each month. The rest of the months contributed 1 a mortal victim.
Per day of the week. According to the weekend definition of 15:00h on Friday at 23:59h on Sunday, the highest percentage of deaths is recorded outside the weekend with 73% (16). There has been a decrease in the number of people who died at the weekend (-2), compared to the increase in the rest of the week (+3), compared to 2019.
Safety accessories. 4 of the 7 deceased users of tourism (57%) did not use the safety belt, in 2019 in Turismo was 1 the deceased person who did not use it.
