The meeting is part of the round of contacts that the Office of the Commissioner maintains on a regular basis with the main economic and social agents of La Palma to strengthen institutional coordination and ensure that public reconstruction policies respond to the real needs of the territory.
During the meeting, business representatives conveyed their assessment of the evolution of economic activity since the volcanic eruption, putting on the table both the progress achieved and the challenges that palm tree companies still face. Among the issues addressed were the need to further boost public and private investment, labour shortages, administrative simplification, improvement of strategic infrastructures, connectivity and opportunities to diversify the island economy.
The meeting was attended by FEDEPALMA, the new president of the Federation, José Manuel Hernández, the honorary president, Tomás Barreto, the first vice-president and president of the Insular Initiatives and Tourism Center (CIT) of La Palma, Óscar León, the third vice-president. David Yanes, the treasurer, Vinod Deepak Karani, the manager of the Palm Association of Farmers and Ranchers (ASPA), Antonio Luis Pérez and the general secretary of FEDEPALMA, Cristina Hernández.
