The government delegate in the Basque Country, Denis Itxaso, visits this morning the facilities of Basquevolt, a pioneering company in Europe for the manufacture of solid-state lithium batteries located in the Technological Park of Álava. Itxaso will meet from 09:00 hours with Francisco Carranza (CEO of the company), Pablo Fernández (director of Engineering and Programs), Nuria Gisbert (president of the board of directors) and Zigor Urquiaga (member of the board of directors).
Basquevolt is immersed in the construction of a pilot cell factory for 1 GWh accumulators in the Álava Technology Park for which it has received a grant from the Ministry of Science and Innovation of 14.69 million euros within the second call of the PERTE (Strategic Projects for the Recovery and Economic Transformation) of the Electric and Connected Vehicle (VEC). The PERTEs are part of the recovery, transformation and resilience plan promoted by the Spanish Government.
Basquevolt’s technology will make possible the massive deployment of electric transport, stationary energy storage and advanced portable devices. Denis Itxaso values the potential of this company in which the Government is especially involved in its shareholding. “The automotive sector is one of the main industrial sectors in the Basque Country and is in full transformation. Basquevolt is a pioneer in the automotive sector of the future and, with supports like the one we are showing today, we are trying to consolidate that industry as one of the factors of wealth generation and employment of the future. It is a sector that is dense in knowledge and called to play a very important role in the decarbonization of the economy,” explains Denis Itxaso. “Basquevolt is going to become one of the main actors in Álava and Euskadi in the short term. In addition to its commitment to innovation, the new battery factory will generate quality jobs in the Alava and Basque economies,” says the government delegate.
In its shareholding is the Ministry of Science and Innovation through the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI), a public-private entity dependent on the Ministry that promotes innovation and technological development of the Spanish economy. Among its purposes is the support and consolidation of technology-based companies, such as Basquevolt, through participation in its capital. In the shareholding there are also the Basque Government and major industrial actors in the energy and automotive sector of the Basque Country such as Iberdrola, CIE Automotive and Enagás.
After the visit, photographs will be sent, as well as a voice cut from the delegate to the media.
