The government delegate in the Basque Country, Denis Itxaso, participated this morning in the inauguration of the Technical Conference ‘The Social Function of the Labour and Social Security Inspectorate. The Future of Work We Want’ organized by the Progressive Union of Labour Inspectors and Inspectors at the Law School of Biscay.
The government delegate highlighted in his speech the “fundamental pillar” that the Labour and Social Security Inspectorate performs as a “public service in its commitment to a fair and equitable society”, as well as its defense of the values of equality, social justice and rights.
Denis Itxaso has valued the data resulting from the performance in his work by the Labour Inspection of the Government of Spain as the “outcrop of 1,959 jobs, the collection of 29 million euros
social security and the 8.2 million euros imposed in the form of sanctions.” 971 visits have been carried out during special hours (nights, holidays, weekends).
Among other aspects, Itxaso stressed that “labour inspection has a key role in complying with the various labour standards that we have equipped ourselves with. It is useless to advance in rights if it is not then controlled that these provisions can be scrupulously complied with.”
According to the government delegate, “the Labour Inspectorate must act as an active ally in the fight against discrimination, labour exploitation and wage inequality.” He also stressed that the inspection work must continue to adapt “as technology and globalization continue to transform our economy, and therefore labor relations.”
Finally, the government delegate has shown his conviction that these days will represent a “magnificent space for reflection, learning and dialogue from which we can contribute to strengthening this fundamental pillar of labor and social justice towards a brighter and more equitable future”.
