The Provincial Traffic Headquarters of Navarre joins the commemoration of the World Day in Remembrance of the Victims of Traffic Accidents that, for 30 years, has been held on the third Sunday of November in accordance with a Resolution of the General Assembly of the UN. On this occasion, a rally was held at the gates of the Headquarters, attended by, among other authorities, the Government delegate in Navarre, Alicia Echeverría, the provincial traffic chief, Belén Santamaría, the Civil Guard, the National Police, the Foral Police, as well as representatives of other police forces and ADACEN, the Brain Damage Association of Navarre.
This year’s campaign, under the slogan “Lost Talents”, focuses on the fact that, when a person dies or is seriously injured in a traffic accident, the world loses a life and, with it, also loses its potential, its ideas and its future impact on society.
According to statistics, road accident injuries remain the leading cause of death among children and adolescents. The vacuum that leaves a death or serious injury on the road is forcefully transmitted through images Such as an empty stage, a deserted sports field or a silent room: spaces where their presence is deeply missed and their absence is painfully felt.
The commemoration of this day is also about providing a platform for traffic victims and their families to remember those who died and were injured on the roads; recognizing the work of emergency services; drawing attention to the legal response to deaths and injuries in accidents; advocating for better support for traffic victims and their families; and promoting actions to prevent and reduce accidents.
