Tomorrow, Tuesday, June 24, the third edition of ‘Cine Sénior’ kicks off. With this program, people aged 65 and over can go to the cinema every Tuesday, for twelve months in a row, at a reduced price of 2 euros, in any of the 397 exhibition spaces throughout Spain that have benefited from the measure promoted by the Ministry of Culture. In particular, a total of 6 cinemas participate in the Foral Community of Navarre.
These are the Multicines Los Llanos de Estella/Lizarra; the Golem Bayona and Yamaguchi de Pamplona/Iruña; the Golem La Morea in Cordovilla; Yelmo Cines Itaroa de Huarte/Uharte; and Ocine de Tudela.
In the previous edition of Cine Sénior, in 2024, a total of 31,040 viewers enjoyed the program in the Foral Community of Navarra, 61.7% more than in the edition of 2023.
Third edition of Senior Film
The continuity of the program responds to the good results of the previous editions, as well as the determination of the Ministry of Culture to support the exhibition halls as a key link in the film chain and vehicle of access to cultural diversity. According to data from the Federation of Spanish Cinemas (FECE), during the second edition, which took place between May and December 2024, 1,689,115 senior viewers attended the cinemas, 764,391 more than in the 2023 edition, which represented an increase of 83%.
Likewise, ‘Cine Sénior’ aims to protect and respect the right of older people to participate in the social and cultural sphere, something fundamental for an active and healthy lifestyle.
In this edition, as a novelty, the program will be in force throughout the year, until June 2026, compared to the nine months of last edition. Tickets can be purchased both at the ticket offices of the exhibition halls and by electronic means.
The maximum allocation to finance these grants in 2025 amounts to EUR 8.5 million. Of the amount earmarked specifically for the aid, EUR 8.15 million, a maximum of EUR 7.25 million corresponds to the granting of the aid to the beneficiaries, while a maximum of EUR 90 000 will be reserved to meet the possible needs for an increase in the aid granted as a result of a greater execution of the planned one.
