The delegate of the Government in Navarre, Alicia Echeverría, and the provincial head of Traffic, Belén Santamaría, have met today with the mayor of Tudela, Alejandro Toquero, to analyze the agreement for the implementation of a computerized classroom for the realization of the theoretical exams of driving in the capital of Navarre.
Currently, Tudela already welcomes the realization of these tests, but, in order to comply with article 52 of the General Regulations of Drivers, which provides for the realization of exams by computer means, it is necessary to undertake the digitalization of the classroom used for it.
The General Directorate of Traffic has drawn up a standard agreement that is already being signed by other localities in the country that, like Tudela, have displaced centres for carrying out examinations. The agreement establishes a mechanism of cooperation between the DGT and each city council so that theoretical tests can be carried out soon by computer procedures and with the same conditions as those carried out in the facilities of the Provincial Traffic Headquarters. In the meantime, the tests are still being carried out as before. The computerized classrooms are already operating in Calatayud and Tomelloso with excellent results.
Under this agreement, each city council acquires a series of commitments, among them, to condition the classroom within a maximum period of 12 months from the signing, assuming the expenses that this will cause. Both the Government Delegation and the Provincial Traffic Headquarters have reminded the mayor of Tudela that the DGT does not value the sources of funding that each city council can count on; and that, as stated in the agreement, the DGT itself does not assume or have assumed these expenses in any displaced center.
For its part, the General Directorate of Traffic undertakes to carry out, at least once a month, the theoretical tests for obtaining a driving licence or license in the examination center authorized by the city council. It also undertakes to provide the necessary technical and computer advice, to make proper use of computer facilities and equipment, or to collaborate with municipal and security employees.
The initial duration of the agreement is four years.
The DGT guarantees the performance of driving tests in each provincial capital. In addition, other localities have “displaced” centers to which personnel of the General Directorate of Traffic moves to carry out the tests in the premises previously ceded by the consistories. The need to have computerized classrooms makes it necessary now to sign agreements with localities that do not meet the requirements to continue carrying out theoretical examinations under the same conditions as in their own centers. The DGT bets on these displaced centers to continue providing citizens with the best possible service.
