The government delegate in Navarre has highlighted the “transformative power” of social movements, organizations and entities of all kinds that work for equality and non-violence. Alicia Echeverría has assured that this work is complementary to the policies developed by public administrations. “The State is all of us,” he said, “and on an issue as sensitive as violence against women, we need the involvement of the whole of society, because it is a structural problem to which we must give a joint, integral and transversal response.”
This has been expressed in the course of the act of handing over the Meninas 2024, a recognition to organizations, institutions and people committed to the eradication of violence against women promoted by the Government Delegation for Gender Violence of the Ministry of Equality. The event, held today in Civican, is part of the commemoration, on 25 November, of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Echeverría has highlighted the priorities of the Government of Spain in the field of male violence. On the one hand, the renewal of the State Pact against Gender Violence, including new forms of violence such as economic or vicarious violence. And, on the other hand, the dedication of more public resources to prevention and protection policies, without forgetting the persecution of abusers and their provision of justice.
Meninas 2024
In this year’s edition, the Coordinator of Women and/or Feminists for Equality in Navarre (COMFIN), the Legal Service for Women of the Pamplona Bar Association (SAM), the Institute of Legal and Forensic Psychology (PSIMAE), and the Institute of Secondary Education of Mendillorri have been recognized.
COMFIN is the Coordinator of Women and/or Feminists for Equality in Navarre. It is a non-governmental organization that was born in 2012 as a result of the demand of the women’s associative movement to have a space for the meeting, for the strengthening of the associations themselves, and to create networks of work and accompaniment between women. COMFIN works in the promotion of equality, in feminism, in the public participation of the associations that make it up and in the strengthening of women’s associations. It develops projects of training and prevention of violence, or of good feminist practices.
Another of the Meninas has been for the Legal Service for Women of the Pamplona Bar Association (SAM). Established in 1998, it aims to provide legal advice and assistance to women victims of violence or gender discrimination. It also has an emergency service of permanent guard located 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, which is activated with a call to 112 and which is intended for women who, having been victims of abuse or sexual assault, demand the urgent intervention of a lawyer for guidance and accompaniment.
In addition, the Government Delegation in Navarre has recognized the PSIMAE, the Institute of Legal and Forensic Psychology, a psychological cabinet that has been working, for 25 years, in the field of violence against women, fundamentally, from three areas. On the one hand, with a legal and forensic area that offers advice to legal professionals and produces forensic and psychological expert reports. On the other hand, from a clinical perspective, since it offers psychological treatment to both victims and aggressors. And finally, with an area of training and research.
In addition, a Menina has been received by the Institute of Secondary Education of Mendillorri. It is a center of public ownership that understands education from a global and integral, inclusive and competitive perspective. It has a very active co-education team, which involves students in multiple activities, such as those they carry out each year around the commemoration of November 25. She also gives workshops of the Master Plan for Coexistence and the Improvement of School Safety in areas such as pornography, the prevention of violence against women or alternative masculinities.
