The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), through the State Commercial Society of Agrarian Infrastructures (Seiasa), has launched the works of modernization of the irrigation of the Community of Irrigators Viana I (Navarre), with a budget of 11,198,750 euros.
The works, which have an execution period of 24 months, aim to improve the management of available irrigation water, so that the irrigated area, which is cultivated by 366 irrigators, can be consolidated, making its irrigation sustainable.
Water saving
The project envisages the conditioning of the intake in the river Ebro and the installation of a network of buried pipes to provide irrigation water under pressure to an area of 1,060 hectares. These pipes will replace the deteriorated network of onshore ditches and canals currently used, which will result in significant water savings.
In addition, two regulation ponds will be built for water storage and a new system of measurement and management of the volume used in each operation will be implemented, to achieve greater control and optimization of consumption.
There are also two pumping stations that will be supplied with energy from an electric line and a photovoltaic solar park, both of new construction.
80% of the total cost of the action that is considered eligible expenditure and is eligible for funding will be financed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, from the Next Generation funds of the European Union, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The remaining amount will be contributed by the community of irrigators.
