The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, through the General Directorate of Civil Aviation, has chaired the meeting of the Airport Coordination Committee of Navarra, meeting today to analyze the current situation of Noáin Airport. In its course, the recovery of passenger traffic that this infrastructure is experiencing after the pandemic has been observed, reaching 197,509 passengers, 14.5% more than in the previous year.
The Navarre airport has regular daily flights to the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport and three times a week to Gran Canaria, in addition to the charter links that are scheduled in Semana Santa, San Fermín and other local holiday bridges.
In recent years, this airport has been recognized by users for the quality of its services. That is why it received the award of the International Airport Council (ACI) as “Best airport for less than two million passengers” in 2022, and recognized in 2021 for its performance in the hygiene measures deployed during the pandemic.
The meeting has reported on the continuous improvement of its facilities and services of this infrastructure. In the case of the commercial section, the last year has seen how a new cafeteria and a store were launched in the terminal building.
In addition, these improvements are reflected in the section of airport marketing, where Aena works constantly, together with local institutions, in the promotion of the airport with the airlines and in the main meetings of the sector in which the strategy of the airlines is decided.
In this regard, it has been pointed out that a few weeks ago a powerful incentive plan was presented for airports of less than three million passengers through which airlines will be exempt from paying the fare per passenger of all passengers additional to those of 2023 for three consecutive years.
The meeting was attended by Berta Miranda, General Director of Transport and Sustainable Mobility of the Government of Navarre, Valentín Velasco, General Secretary of the Government Delegation in Navarre, as well as representatives of local entities, economic and social organizations and Aena. The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere that reflected the good harmony between all the agencies and institutions, with a clear desire for coordination to continue working for the future of Pamplona Airport.
Civil society participation
The Airport Coordination Committees (CCAs) allow the participation of the autonomous communities, local entities and civil society in the development strategy of the airports located in their territories.
The CCAs constitute spaces for efficient dialogue between the airport manager and the territory, safeguarding the operator’s management autonomy. Its objective is that the airport infrastructures incorporate and anticipate the necessary demands for the economic and social progress of the communities in which they are located, and at the same time, contribute from each territory to guarantee the competitiveness of the airports and the sustainability of the airport system.
